Holiday Speakers

Liturgist-In-Residence Alden Solovy
Visiting Rodef Shalom This Rosh Hashanah

Many will remember Alden Solovy from 2015’s Elul Memory Project and the prayer crafted by our collective memories shared on blackboards. (Revisit that project here.) Alden is returning to Rodef Shalom and will contribute to our holiday exploration of courage.

Courageous Conversations: "Women of Faith"
Yom Kippur Afternoon

Rabbi Sharyn Henry ∙ Dr. Malak Bokhari ∙ Rev. Ayana Teter

How does one guide our faith communities in times of turmoil? What does it take to lead in a position traditionally held by men? Is raising teenagers one of the most courageous acts of this age? Hear from women of different cultural background who are leaders in their religious traditions and daily face these challeges and more.

Yom Kippur Afternoon: Saturday, September 30
3:00 p.m. ∙ Levy Hall

Dr. Malak Bokhari teaches Quranic Arabic at the Islamic Center of Pittsburgh in addition to her practice as a colorectal surgeon at UPMC. Dr. Bokhari was born and raised in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and is a University of Pittsburgh alumna.

Rev. Ayana Teter is an Associate Minister of the Pittsburgh Presbytery. Rev. Teter serves as a leadership coach for developing congregations and is co-owner of Harps & Willows, a congregational consulting company. She received the Rachel Henderlite Award in 2006 for making significant contributions to cross-cultural relationships.
