Introduction to Lifecycle & Worship
For 150 years the members of Rodef Shalom Congregation have understood that the opportunity to share our lives with one another is one of the sacred privileges participating in a congregational community provides. Whether we are welcoming a new life into our family circle, marking one of life’s most significant passages, celebrating the expansion of our lives through marriage, or, by turns, moving through the various stages of illness or loss, the knowledge that we are not alone gives meaning to our experience. At Rodef Shalom, we appreciate how significant each of these life passages is to every individual and family.

Further, within our congregational family we appreciate the power that exists in joining together for worship and celebration as dictated, not by life’s vicissitudes, but by the calendar. Whether we gather each week for a joyous Shabbat service or celebrate those holidays and festivals most significant to us but once a year, the chance to share both our tradition and the transcendent is, as in the words of the psalmist, "more precious than rubies, and even fine gold." (Prov. 8:11,10)

We hope that as you familiarize yourself with the way our congregation practices Judaism’s customs and rituals, marking life’s passages and celebrating our holidays and festivals, you will think to be in touch with us with any questions you may have. And even more significantly, we hope that you will soon afford us the opportunity to welcome you, to celebrate or share with you, and to consider you a member of our family as well.

Blessings
