Gather with friends for remarkable broadcasts from the 92nd Street Y in Manhattan—challenging, enlightening, and edifying “big screen” productions. Watch, listen, discuss, and learn...without leaving town. Study held 45 minutes prior to each broadcast.
The Bible, arguably the most important book in history, has influenced centuries of church doctrine, politics and culture, and remains a constant source of debate and controversy. Examine the Bible’s many mixed messages on sex and sexuality, and its lasting influence on hot-button issues from the priesthood to gay marriage, with two leading Biblical scholars whose recent books touched a nerve with readers and set off fierce public debates. Bart Ehrman is the author of more than 20 books, including The New York Times best-sellers Forged and Misquoting Jesus. He is the James A. Gray Distinguished Professor of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina. Jennifer Wright Knust, assistant professor of religion at Boston University, is an ordained American Baptist pastor and author of Unprotected Texts: The Bible’s Surprising Contradictions About Sex and Desire. This lecture is endowed by Philip and Jamila Weintraub
